\textit{R.\,E.\thinspace Hartwig}, \textit{G.--R.\thinspace Wang} and \textit{Y.--M.\thinspace Wei} [Linear Algebra Appl.\ 322, 207--217 (2001; Zbl 0967.15003)] considered the Drazin inverses \((P+Q)^D\) of the sum of two complex square matrices. In the present paper, the authors introduce a formula for Drazin inverses \((F+G)^D\) of the sum of two Drazin invertible bounded operators on a Banach space \(X\). For this, they give a representation for the resolvent of an operator matrix of the form \(\left [\begin{smallmatrix} F&I \\ GF&G \end{smallmatrix}\right]\), under the conditions \(G^2F=GF^2=0\). They also present some applications of their results.
