Clausen's theorem and hypergeometric functions over finite fields (Q2517818)

The authors prove a general identity for a \(_3F_2\) hypergeometric function over a finite field of order power of an odd prime. This contains, as a special case a result by \textit{J. Greene} and \textit{D. Stanton} [J. Number Theory 23, 136--148 (1986; Zbl 0588.10038)]. As an application, a finite field analogue of the famous Clausen identity is provided. Another application extends a result by \textit{K. Ono} [Trans. Amer. Math. Soc. 350, 1205--1223 (1998; Zbl 0910.11054)].
