The authors conduct a comprehensive study of the Lamé equation, looking at both the polynomial solution of its algebraic form and the double-periodic solution of its Weierstrass form. In previous works, such solutions appear at integer values of the spectral parameter with the eigenvalues serving as the ends of bands in the corresponding boundary value problem. In this work, they establish a number of formulas in terms of hypergeometric and elliptic type integrals for the density of the scaled asymptotic distribution of the eigenvalues when the integer-valued spectral parameter tends to infinity. This density also satisfies a differential equation with four singularities. The authors suggest that further work is to be undertaken to extend the results for cubic polynomials \(Q(z)\) with complex roots.
