It is known that the reflexivity of an Orlicz space is a necessary and sufficient condition for the existence of its unconditional basis (i.e., basis preserving the basis property under permutations of its terms). In this paper the authors consider the possibility of weakening the metric under which Fourier series exhibit unconditional convergence with respect to bases in the Orlicz space. In nonreflexive Orlicz spaces, they establish the dependence on dimension of product bases. Subspaces of a separable Orlicz space whose functions possess Fourier series which are unconditionally convergent in the multiple Haar system are characterized. Also, in the one-dimensional case a simple criterion for the existence of an unconditional basis is obtained. Finally, as an instance of a basis in any separable Orlicz space, the systems of Ciesielski splines is studied.
