Let \(X \subset {\mathbb P}(V)\), where \(V={\mathbb C}^{2n+2}\), be a Legendrian subvariety, i.e. a subvariety such that for each smooth point of its affine cone the tangent space at this point is a Lagrangian subspace of \(V\). The author shows that (i) if \(X\) is irreducible and smooth, or has at most isolated singularities, then a general hyperplane section of \(X\) admits a Legendrian embedding into a projective space; (ii) if \(X\) is irreducible with singular locus of dimension \(k\) and \(H \subset {\mathbb P}(V)\) is a general hyperplane, then there exists a variety \({\widetilde X}_H\) such that the singular locus of \({\widetilde X}_H\) has dimension at most \(k-1\), \({\widetilde X}_H\) has an open subset isomorphic to the smooth locus of \(X \cap H\) and \({\widetilde X}_H\) admits a Legendrian embedding. Moreover, by applying the theorem, he gives interesting new examples of smooth Legendrian subvarieties.
