The author characterizes continuous maps \(t\mapsto u(t)\) from the real line \(\mathbb R\) into a Hilbert space, that are the orbits \(t\mapsto U(t)u(0)\) of a strongly continuous unitary group \(\{U(t)\}_{t\in \mathbb R}\). The characterizations include (1) \(u\) is unitary, i.e., \(\langle u(t+r), u(s+r)\rangle=\langle u(t), u(s)\rangle\) for all \(r,s\), \(t\in\mathbb R\); (2) \(u\) is the Fourier transform of an appropriate vector-valued measure.
