There has been significant progress made in the last decades on obstruction theory in terms of Euler classes of projective modules as suggested by M.~V.~Nori. This has been particularly useful when one has to deal with affine algebras over non-algebraically closed fields in general and real numbers in particular. In the paper under review, the authors study this for the ring of algebraic functions on the real sphere in some detail. Among other results, they reprove the well-known fact that the tangent bundles of real spheres of even dimension has no nowhere vanishing section purely algebraically.
