Let \(G\) be a finite group. A conjecture of Isaacs states that if \(G\) is solvable and \(\alpha\) and \(\beta\) are faithful characters of \(G\) such that \(\alpha\beta\) is irreducible, then \(G\) is cyclic [see \textit{I. M. Issacs}, J. Algebra 223, No. 2, 630-646 (2000; Zbl 0947.20007)]. In the paper under review the author proves this conjecture in two special cases, namely (1) for M-groups, i.e., groups in which every irreducible character is monomial, and (2) for groups of Fitting height at most 4. He makes use of the fact, discovered by Isaacs, that in order to prove the conjecture it suffices to prove the following conjecture: Let \(V\) be a simple \(FG\)-module, where \(F\) is a field. Suppose that we can factor \(G=XY\), where \(X\) and \(Y\) are subgroups of \(G\), and each of \(X\) and \(Y\) has a nonzero fixed point on \(V\). Then \(G\) acts trivially on \(V\).
