The monograph is devoted to the theory of elliptic partial differential equations with nonlocal boundary conditions. Such kind of mathematical problems were introduced by \textit{T. Carleman} in 1932 [Acta Math. 59, 63--87 (1932; Zbl 0005.20703; JFM 58.0417.01)] and have been motivated by their applications in various fields of science and technology, such as elasticity and diffusion processes. The first part of the monograph consists of an Introduction (overview), three chapters and an Appendix. Chapter 1 is devoted to second order ordinary differential equations with nonlocal boundary conditions and to boundary value problems for differential-difference equations in one-dimension. Chapter 2 is concerning with elliptic equations with nonlocal terms supported on a compact inside the domain. Finally Chapter 3 presents the theory of Kondratiev weighted spaces which is required by the announced Part II of the monograph devoted to nonlocal elliptic problems with singularities.
