The authors are concerned with one-leg \(\theta\) methods for the solution of delay functional differential equations. The aim of the paper is to consider the properties of dissipativity, asymptotic stability and contractivity in the underlying problem and to investigate these same properties in the numerical approximation. The paper is organised as follows: After a brief introduction, theoretical results are provided first for the underlying continuous problem and then for its discrete analogue when one-leg methods are applied. It is shown that \(\theta=1\) is a necessary and sufficient condition for the one-leg method to be asymptotically stable, contractive and dissipative. The paper concludes with some numerical examples that confirm the theoretical results.
