If \(A\) and \(B\) are Abelian groups then the group \(\Hom(A,B)\) is naturally a right \(E(A)\)-module and a left \(E(B)\)-module. Here \(E(X)\) denotes the endomorphism ring of \(X\). In each case the scalar multiplication is the composition of maps. In the main results of the present paper the authors characterize the situations when \(\Hom(A,B)\) is Artinian as a left \(E(B)\)-module (Theorem 1.9), respectively when \(\Hom(A,B)\) is Artinian as a right \(E(A)\)-module (Theorem 2.5). These characterizations are expressed using properties of the \(A\)-trace (socle) and the \(A\)-radical of \(B\).
