Strong approximation of functions by positive operators (Q2520414)

The paper is concerned with approximation of continuous functions, defined on the real axis, by positive linear operators of integral type and by generalized Bernstein operators. Quantitative results, expressed in terms of moduli of continuity, are obtained. Some results of \textit{V. Zhu} and \textit{G. Natanson} [Uch. Zap. Tartu. Gos. Univ. 430, Tr. Mat. Mekh. 19, 58--69 (1977; Zbl 0436.41011)] and \textit{V. I. Zubov} [Dokl. Math. 52, No. 1, 81--83 (1995); translation from Dokl. Akad. Nauk, Ross. Akad. Nauk 343, No. 5, 593--595 (1995; Zbl 0879.41007)] are extended in several directions.
