The spectral representation theorems for selfadjoint, unitary, and normal operators are derived from analytical representations of resolvents. If \(A\) is a bounded operator whose spectrum contains no nonzero point, if \(A\) is cyclic with cyclic vector \(e\), and if the range of \(A+A^*\) is spanned by \(e\), then \(A\) is unitarily equivalent to a real constant multiple of the Volterra operator \(\varphi(t) \to \int_0^t \varphi(s)\,ds\) in \(L^2(0,1)\).
