      A skew-Hadamard abelian group difference set is a difference set \(D\) in an Abelian group \(G\) such that if \(G\) is written multiplicatively \(1\notin D\) and \(a\in D\) if and only if \(a^{-1}\notin D\) for \(a\ne 1\). For the parameters \(v,k,\lambda\) of \(D\) one easily finds \(v = 4m - 1\), \(k = 2m - 1\), \(\lambda = m - 1\), \(k - \lambda = m\). The author shows: \[ v = p^{2\alpha +1},\quad p\equiv 3\pmod 4, \tag{1}\] (2) If \(v = p{2\alpha +1}\) and if \(G\) has a homomorphic image which is cyclic of order \(p^\beta\) then \(\beta\le \alpha +1\). (3) If \(G\) is the group of residues mod \(p\) then \(D\) is either the set of quadratic residues or the set of quadratic nonresidues. (4) If \(v = p^3\) then \(G\) is elementary abelian.
