On some statistical properties of the alternating group of degree \(n\) (Q2536640)

In a series of papers two of the authors were developing a statistical theory of the symmetric groups [see \textit{P. Erdős} and \textit{P. Turán}, Wahrscheinlichkeitstheorie Verw. Gebiete 4, 175--186 (1965; this Zbl 0137.25602); Acta Math. Acad. Sci. Hung. 18, 151--163, 309--320 (1967; Zbl 0189.31302, Zbl 0235.20003)]. In this paper applying the results in the above papers the authors determine the number of the conjugacy-classes in the alternating group \(A_n\), the number of elements of \(A_n\) whose order is less or equal to a certain limit, and the number of commuting pairs of elements in \(A_n\).
