The \(\beta\)-transformation with a hole (Q256134)

Let \(J(a,b)\) be the set of all \(x\in(0,1)\) such that the \(T\)-orbit of \(x\) has an empty intersection with the intervall \((a,b)\), \(0<a<b<1\). This paper extends the study of \(J(a,b)\) from the case of the doubling map \(T\), done by \textit{P. Glendinning} and \textit{N. Sidorov} [Ergodic Theory Dyn. Syst. 35, No. 4, 1208--1228 (2015; Zbl 1358.37031)] resp. \textit{K. G. Hare} and \textit{N. Sidorov} [Monatsh. Math. 175, No. 3, 347--365 (2014; Zbl 1308.37019)], to the more general \(\beta\)-transformation \(T\).
