Let \(X\) be a topological space and \(A\) be a subset of \(X\). The closure of \(A\) and the interior of \(A\) will be denoted by \(\text{cl}_x (A)\) and \(\text{int}_x (A)\), respectively. A subset \(A\) of \(X\) is said to be semi-open [\textit{N. Levine}, Am. Math. Mon. 70, 36-41 (1963; Zbl 0113.16304)] (resp. regular semiopen [\textit{D. E. Cameron}, Proc. Am. Math. Soc. 72, 581-586 (1978; Zbl 0408.54018)]) if there exists an open (resp. regular open) set \(U\) of \(X\) such that \(U\subset A\subset \text{cl}_x (U)\). The family of all semi-open sets in \(X\) will be denoted by \(SO(X)\). \textit{T. Thompson} [ibid. 60(1976), 335-338 (1977; Zbl 0339.54020)] has defined a topological space \(X\) to be \(S\)-closed if for every semi-open cover \(\{U_\alpha \mid \alpha \in \nabla\}\) of \(X\), there exists a finite subfamily \(\nabla_0\) of \(\nabla\) such that \(X= \bigcup \{\text{cl}_x (U_\alpha) \mid \alpha\in \nabla_0\}\). \textit{T. Noiri} [Atti Accad. Naz. Lincei, VIII. Ser., Rend., Cl. Sci. Fis. Mat. Nat. 64, 157-162 (1978; Zbl 0429.54008)] and \textit{M. H. Woo}, \textit{T. Kwon} and \textit{J. Sakong} [Bull. Korean Math. Soc. 20, 95-97 (1983; Zbl 0593.54021)] showed that if \(A\) is an \(S\)-closed open subspace of a space \(X\), then \(\text{cl}_x (A)\) is an \(S\)-closed subspace of \(X\). In this paper, we prove the result by omitting the openness condition and we give a characterization of \(S\)-closed spaces.
