Let \(G\) be a finite non-solvable group with a self-centralizing Sylow subgroup of order four. Set \(N\) to be the largest normal subgroup of \(G\) of odd order. It follows from \textit{D. Gorenstein} and \textit{J. H. Walter} [Ill. J. Math. 6, 553-593 (1962; Zbl 0126.05202)] that \(G/N\) is isomorphic to \(\text{PSL}(2,q)\) for some appropriate \(q\). The present paper proves further that \(N\) is nilpotent, and that, if \(G/N\) is not isomorphic to \(\text{PSL}(2,5)\), then \(N\) is a \(p\)-group, where \(p\) is the prime divisor of \(q\).
