A state-of-the-art is given of the theory of transport of groundwater contaminations, and of the design in situ the remediation strategies. The used models may simulate both miscible and immiscible displacements; the reservoire characterization is also considered. Operator-splitting techniques are described to solve the purely hyperbolic part of the equations. The directional derivative is discretized along the characteristics, and a comparison is made between the ELAM and MMOC techniques. The author discusses some ideas concerning the adaptive gridrefinement techniques and gives a large list of references.
