Critical stretch for formation of a cylindrical void in a compressible hyperelastic material (Q2564381)

The author studies the formation of an infinitely long cylindrical void under axial and radial stretches in a compressible hyperelastic materials. The void formation phenomenon is modeled by a bifurcation problem. A shooting method is employed to obtain an equation which determines critical stretches in a numerically tractable form. For a special class of constitutive equations, including Blatz-Ko materials, the author obtains an explicit expression for critical stretches and stresses. Numerical results and diagrams are presented.
