    Using a biorthogonal eigenfunction system and assuming different scales in space and time for the disturbances and the nonlinear distortion, a weakly nonlinear perturbation method is developed for wave interaction in a compressible three-dimensional boundary layer. This method is a generalisation of Zelman's two-dimensional incompressible boundary-layer analysis. A brief numerical example is presented for the interaction of Tollmien-Schlichting waves in a self-similar three-dimensional boundary layer demonstrating the possible amplification of rather broad packets without an exact resonance synchronisation.
