    The authors use an important example of an autoparametric vibration absorber in order to illustrate weakly nonlinear, resonant response of multi degree-of-freedom systems with 1:2 internal resonance. The studied system consists of a main spring-mass-damper with a pendulum attached to it. The authors introduce a small parameter \(\varepsilon\), in accordance with the first order averaging method. The second-order analysis is employed to predict the true response of this autoparametric system for large values of the parameter \(\varepsilon\). The authors reach the following conclusion: since the first-order averaged equations of the considered autoparametric system represent a wide class of systems with quadratic nonlinearities, similar dependence on \(\varepsilon\) is also expected for the latter systems relative to the response, stability, bifurcation analysis, periodic and chaotic solutions, etc.
