Conventional spectral methods impose rigid requirements on the computational grids used. The grid points are nodes of Gauss-like quadrature formulas (Gauss, Gauss-Radan or Gauss-Lobatto formulas). Stable and spectrally accurate numerical methods are constructed on arbitrary grids for partial differential equations. These new methods are equivalent to conventional spectral methods but do not rely on specific grid distributions. How to implement Legendre-Galerkin collocation, Legendre collocation, and Laguerre-Galerkin methodology on arbitrary grids is shown. The theoretical results are tested with two numerical examples.
