\textit{D. B. A. Epstein} proved in [Proc. Lond. Math. Soc., III. Ser. 11, 469-484 (1961; Zbl 0111.18801)], that the fundamental group of a nonorientable 3-manifold is either infinite or \({\mathbb{Z}}/2\). Equivalently, a finite group acting on a homotopy 3-sphere with \(0\)-dimensional fixed point set must be \({\mathbb{Z}}/2\). In the paper under review the latter conclusion is shown to hold with homotopy 3-spheres replaced by rational homotopy 3-spheres.
