The author studies various topologies on lattices and orthomodular lattices. He concentrates on the following types of convergence on a lattice \(L\): 1. The order convergence. 2. The convergence in the order topology (which is weaker than the first convergence). 3. The \(\tau_{\mu}\)-convergence, where \(\mu\) is a \textit{scale} on \(L\), i.e. an isotone real-valued function, and \(\tau_{\mu}\) is the coarsest topology in which the mappings \(x\mapsto\mu(x\wedge y)\), \(x\mapsto\mu(x\vee y)\) are continuous for all \(y\in L\). 4. The \(\rho_{\mu}\)-convergence, where \(\mu\) is a scale on \(L\) and \(\rho_{\mu}(x,y)=\mu(x\vee y)-\mu(x\wedge y)\). Conditions are derived under which the latter three types of convergence coincide, and also for the coincidence of the order convergence with the other types. The consequences for convergence in orthomodular lattices are studied, continuing the work of \textit{M. Erné} and \textit{Z. Riečanová} [``Order-topological complete orthomodular lattices'', Topology Appl. 61, 215-227 (1995; Zbl 0817.06009)].
