The paper is concerned with counting the number of isolated roots of a polynomial system with coefficients belonging to an algebraically closed field (positive characteristic allowed) lying in affine spaces. The main result is called by the authors Affine Point Theorem and is a strong generalization of the BKK bound. Going further, the paper discusses the optimality of the result and large families of polynomial systems are found for which the root count is exact. The results are proved using toric variety techniques and additional homotopy arguments.
