The paper considers a control system on \(R^n\) on the compact interval \(I\) of type \[ \dot \xi =f(t,\xi ,u) \] where \(u\) belongs to \(L^p(I,R^m)\) and \(f(.,x.u)\) may be unbounded for fixed \((x,u)\). The flow of the system is considered as a map \[ \xi :R^n\times L^p(I,R^m)\longrightarrow C(I,R^n) \] \[ \text{(initial-state\;,\;control) } \longmapsto \text{ solution} \] between Banach spaces. The paper studies the Fréchet \(r\)-differentiability of the map \(\xi \) when \(r\leq p\). The results are used to give necessary conditions for a reference (initial-state, control) to be a local (in \(R^n\times L^p\)) minimizer for a Mayer problem with end-points constraints. Moreover, a simple example shows that the usual second order sufficient condition, i.e., second variation coercive, is effective only when \(f\) is a polynomial of degree two in the control variables and the control space is \(L^2\).
