Let \(X\) be a complex projective surface and \(H\) an ample divisor on \(X\). Call \(M=M_H(r,c_1,c_2)\) the moduli space of \(H\)-stable, \(\text{rank }r\) vector bundles with Chern classes \(c_1\) and \(c_2\); let \(\overline M\) be its Gieseker-Maruyama compactification. For all elements \(\alpha\) of the Grothendieck group \(K(X)\), with \(\chi(\alpha\otimes E)=0\) for \(E\in M\), Drezet constructed a divisor \(D(\alpha)\) on \(M\), essentially by taking all bundles \(E\) with non vanishing cohomology; then he proved that \(\text{Pic} (\overline M)\) is generated by these divisors, when \(X\) is the projective plane. When \(X\neq\mathbb{P}^2\), one cannot hope for a similar statement; instead, the author considers in this paper a ruled surface \(X\to C\) with \(g(C)\geq 1\) and an ample divisor \(H\) such that \((K_X+f)\cdot H<0\); in this case, he proves that the previous divisors \(D(\alpha)\) generate \(\text{Pic} (\overline M)\), modulo the pull-back of divisors on \(\text{Alb}(X) \times \text{Pic}^0(X)\).
