The Bloch space \(\mathcal B\) consists of the analytic functions \(f\) in the unit disk \(\mathbb D\) of the complex plane for which \(\sup_{z\in\mathbb D}(1-| z| ^{2})| f'(z)| <\infty\). Let \(\beta(z,w)\) denote the hyperbolic distance between \(z\), \(w\in\mathbb D\), that is, \[ {\displaystyle\beta(z,w)=\log_2\frac{1+| \frac{w-z}{1-\bar{ z}w}| ^{2}}{1-| \frac{w-z}{1-\bar{z}w}| ^{2}}}. \] A~sequence of points \(\{z_n\}\) in \(\mathbb D\) is called an interpolating sequence for the Bloch space if for any sequence of complex numbers \(\{w_n\}\) for which there exists a constant \(C>0\) such that \(| w_n-w_m| \leq C\beta(z_n,z_m)\), \(n\), \(m=1\), \(2\), \dots, one can find a function \(f\in\mathcal B\) with \(f(z_n)=w_n\), \(n=1, 2, \dots\). A sequence of points \(\{z_n\}\) in \(\mathbb D\) is called separated if there exists a constant \(\delta>0\) such that \(\beta(z_n,z_m)\geq\delta\) for \(n\neq m\). The main result of the paper under review is the following theorem: A~sequence of points \(\{z_n\}\) in the unit disc \(\mathbb D\) is interpolating for the Bloch space \(\mathcal B\) if and only if the following two conditions hold: (a) \(\{z_n\}\) is the union of two separated sequences. (b) There exist constants \(M>0\) and \(0<\alpha<1\) such that for any point \(z\in\mathbb{D}\) and any \(n=1, 2, \dots\), one has \[ \#\{z_k:\beta(z_k,z)\leq n\}\leq M2^{\alpha n}. \] Also some related problems, like sampling sequences and a different interpolation problem, are considered.
