Let \(G=GL(n,\mathbb C)\), \(\mathfrak{g}=\mathfrak{gl}(n,\mathbb C)\), \(\mathfrak{p}=\mathfrak{m}+\mathfrak{n}\) a parabolic subalgebra of \(\mathfrak{g}\), and \(\lambda\) a character of \(\mathfrak{m}\), and consider the generalized Verma module \(M(\lambda)=\mathcal{U}(\mathfrak{g})/J(\lambda)\) of \(\mathfrak{g}\). Here \(J(\lambda)\) is the left ideal in \(\mathcal{U}(\mathfrak{g})\) generated by all elements of the form \(X-\lambda(X)\) with \(X\in\mathfrak{p}\) (\(\lambda\) extended to act trivially on \(\mathfrak{n}\)). We may replace \(\mathcal{U}(\mathfrak{g})\) in the above construction by the homogenized universal enveloping algebra \(\mathcal{U}^{\epsilon}(\mathfrak{g})\) to obtain \(M^{\epsilon}(\lambda)\), where \(\epsilon\) is a complex number. The algebra \(\mathcal{U}^{\epsilon}(\mathfrak{g})\) is isomorphic to \(\mathcal{U}(\mathfrak{g})\) whenever \(\epsilon\neq 0\), is naturally a \((\mathfrak g,G)\)-module, and satisfies \(\mathcal{U}^1(\mathfrak{g})=\mathcal{U}(\mathfrak{g})\) and \(\mathcal{U}^0(\mathfrak{g})=\mathcal{S}(\mathfrak{g})\), the symmetric algebra of \(\mathfrak{g}\). The author studies the annihilator of \(M^{\epsilon}(\lambda)\), and constructs a generator system for this ideal from generalized Capelli operators (introduced in an earlier paper [\textit{T. Oshima}, Structure of solutions of differential equations. Proceedings of the Taniguchi symposium, Katata, Japan, 1995 and the RIMS symposium, Kyoto, Japan, 1995. Singapore: World Scientific, 307--335 (1996; Zbl 0909.22024)]), which can be considered quantizations of minors. To each pair \((\mathfrak{p},\lambda)\) one can assign in a canonical way a Jordan matrix, and hence a conjugacy class of \(n\times n\) complex matrices, and every conjugacy class may be obtained in this way. These classes are algebraic varieties. At the classical limit \(\epsilon=0\) of the quantization parameter, the above generator system generates the defining ideal of the corresponding conjugacy class of square matrices.
