Let \(X \to Y\) be a Galois cover of smooth projective curves defined over an algebraically closed field \(k\). Suppose that \(\text{genus}(X) \geq 2\) and \(\text{genus}(Y) \leq 2\). The author proves that, under certain hypotheses, \(X\) has an unramified cover that dominates a hyperelliptic curve. These results apply, for example, to all tamely superelliptic curves (i.e. cyclic covers of \(\mathbb P^{1}\) of degree not divisible by \(\text{char} (k)\) and \(\text{genus}(X) \geq 2\)), since in this case, the Galois group, being solvable, verifies the conditions of the theorem. Furthermore, combining its result with a theorem of \textit{F. Bogomolov} and \textit{Y. Tschinkel} [in: Algebraic number theory and algebraic geometry. Papers dedicated to A. N. Parshin on the occasion of his sixtieth birthday. Contemp. Math. 300, 17--25 (2002; Zbl 1082.14511)], he proves that \(X\) has an unramified cover that dominates the projective smooth model of the curve \(y^{2}=x^{6}-1\), if \(\text{char} (k)\) is not 2 or 3.
