Let \(\mathcal{P} _n\) be the space of the polynomials of order \(n\). The problem of the best approximation of some rational functions by elements of \(\mathcal{P} _n\) is considered. For the function \(\frac{1}{x-c}\) on \([a,b]\), where \(b<c\) or \(c<a\), the element \(p_n^*\in \mathcal{P} _n\) of best approximation in \(\mathcal{P} _n\) is found. Moreover the quantity \(\| \frac{1}{x-c}-p_n^* \| _{C[a,b]} \) is calculated. Some ideas concerning the problem of best approximation in \(\mathcal{P} _n\) for the Chebyshev expansion in uniform norm are given.
