The authors study the spectra of polynomials whose coefficients are periodic operators with finitely many nonzero diagonals. Such polynomials describe the dynamics of infinite chains of damped harmonic oscillators. It is shown that if the spectrum is bounded then it consists of finitely many analytic arcs. Further, criteria for the existence of the point spectrum are given. Finally, several particular cases are considered.
