The considered Verigin problem is stated as follows: find a surface \(\Gamma_{t}\) that separates the domains \(\Omega_{t}^{1}, \, \Omega_{t}^{2} \subset {\mathbb R}^{n}\) and functions \(u^{1}(x,t)\) and \(u^{2}(x,t)\) that are the pressures of pumped and displaced liquids, satisfying the relations \[ u_{t}^{i} - \alpha \triangle u^{i} = 0, \qquad x \in \Omega_{t}^{i}, \qquad t > 0, \qquad i=1,2. \] These equations are complemented by corresponding initial and boundary conditions. The boundary conditions on the free surface \(\Gamma_{t}\) are of special kind. In the paper the local solvability of the Verigin problem is proved in anisotropic Sobolev spaces. Furthermore, the existence of a solution can be shown whose smoothness does not decrease in time.
