This paper considers dynamical systems induced by mappings of \(\mathbb{R}^N\) of the form \[ \varphi(v)=B(v+\Phi(v)), \enspace v \in \mathbb{R}^N, \] where \(B\) is a nonsingular matrix and \(\Phi\) depends on a function \(f: \mathbb{R} \rightarrow \mathbb{R}\). These mappings arise in the complete discretization of parabolic partial differential equations and were studied in the case where \(f\) is smooth by \textit{W. M. Oliva, N. M. Kuhl}, and \textit{L. T. Magalhães} [Publ. Mat., Barc. 37, 255--269 (1993; Zbl 0816.15021)] and \textit{T. Eirola} and \textit{S. Yu. Pilyugin} [J. Dyn. Differ. Equations 8, 281--297 (1996; Zbl 0857.34046)]. The authors first study the mapping \(\varphi\) when \(f\) is a piecewise linear function. Theorems regarding the dynamics of \(\varphi\) corresponding to open dense subsets of spaces of piecewise linear functions are given. Using these results the authors obtain a strengthened version of the main result of \textit{T. Eirola} and \textit{S. Yu. Pilyugin} (loc. cit.). They prove for an open dense set of smooth functions \(f\) that all fixed-points of \(\varphi\) are hyperbolic.
