This is an expanded version of the material in Section 1.7 of the book [Experimentation in mathematics. Computational paths to discovery (A. K. Peters, Natick, MA) (2004; Zbl 1083.00002)] by the two present authors and D. Bailey. It is concerned with establishing identities involving series of the form \[ \sum n^k\biggl/{2n\choose n}\quad\text{and}\quad \sum 2^{-n} n^k\biggl/{3n\choose n}, \] where \(k\) is a positive or negative integer. Use is made of the polylogarithms \(L_p(z)= \sum_{n> 0} z^n/n^p\) and of integer relation algorithms. A specimen example is \[ \sum_{n\leq 1} (-150n^2+ 230n- 36)\biggl/2^n{3n\choose n}= \pi. \]
