It is a~classical result of \textit{T.W. Chaundy} and \textit{A. E. Jolliffe} [Proc. Lond. Math. Soc., II. Ser. 15, 214--216 (1916; JFM 46.0455.03)] that if \(\{b_n\}_{n=0}^\infty\) is a non-increasing real sequence with \(\lim_{n\to\infty}b_n=0\), then the series \(\sum_{n=0}^\infty b_n\sin nx\) uniformly converges to a~continuous function if and only if \(\lim_{n\to\infty}nb_n=0\). In the paper under the review the authors prove that if \(\{c_n\}_{n=-\infty}^\infty\) is a complex sequence such that there are a~real number \(M>0\), a~natural number \(n_0\), and \(\theta\in[0,\pi/2)\) such that \(|\operatorname{arg}(c_n\pm c_{-n})|\leq\theta\) for all \(n\geq1\) and \(\sum_{n=m}^{2m}|c_n-c_{n+1}|\leq M\max_{m\leq n<m+n_0}|c_n|\) for all \(m\geq1\), then the series \(\sum_{n=-\infty}^\infty c_ne^{inx}\) converges uniformly to a~continuous function if and only if \(\lim_{n\to\infty}nc_n=0\) and \(\sum_{n=1}^\infty|c_n+c_{-n}|<\infty\). The conditions put on the sequence \(\{c_n\}_{n=-\infty}^\infty\) in this theorem generalize both a~bounded variation condition used by \textit{L. Leindler} [Anal.\ Math. 27, No. 4, 279--285 (2001; Zbl 1002.42002)] and the \(O\)-regularly varying quasimonotone condition used by \textit{T.~F. Xie} and \textit{S.~P. Zhou} [J. Math. Anal. Appl. 181, No. 1, 171--180 (1994; Zbl 0791.42004)] for similar conclusions. Let us note that all these conditions can be regarded as generalizations of the monotonicity condition in the result of Chaundy and Jolliffe.
