Let \(B(H)\) be the algebra of all bounded linear operators on a complex Hilbert space \(H\). A totally ordered family \(N\) of projections in \(B(H)\) containing \(0\) and \(1\) is called a nest. The nest algebra \(A\) associated with \(N\) is the subalgebra of all operators a in \(B(H)\) such that \((1-p)ap = 0\) for all \(p\) in \(N\). If \(A\) is a nest algebra and \(As =\{a\in A:a=a*\}\) is its symmetric part, then \((A,As)\) forms a partial Jordan \(\ast\)--triple. In this paper the author considers a nest algebra \(A\) associated with an atomic nest and by help of the Pierce decomposition relative to an orthogonal family of minimal tripotents investigates the structure of inner ideals of \((A,As)\). The main result is applied to provide examples of inner ideals.
