Qualitative properties of solutions of the singular nonlinear and non-autonomous ordinary differential equation of the form \[ A'(\dot x,|\dot x|)+ B'(x,|x|)- f(t) C(x,|x|)= 0,\quad x= x(t),\tag{1} \] are studied, where \(A, B, C, f\) are such that the Lipschitz condition applies locally. Three kinds of solutions are identified; one defined by \(x(t_0)= 0\) being obviously peculiar because \(A'= 0\). The exploration of solutions is based on the ``méthode de tire'' (tactical shelling' \(\leftrightarrow\) `spot response'). Equation (1) is claimed to describe the evolution of an `interface' in a chemical process described by a diffusion-reaction partial differential equation. This process is not specified, neither is the `interface', and no relevant references are cited. No position is taken on the known fact that for a periodic \(f(t)\) the point-map of (1) on a Poincaré surface of section will have as a rule an infinity of phase cells (except in the presence of very strong damping). The `méthode de tire'' is thus rarely exhaustive. Reviewer's remark: The paper looks highly learned, but appears to the reviewer as rather shallow, merely of interest to applied readers.
