The competition-diffusion model for two species studied by the authors has the form \[ \begin{aligned} u_t&= \Delta u+\varepsilon^{-2} u(1-u-cv),\\ v_t&= D\Delta v+\varepsilon^{-2}v(a-bu-v), \end{aligned} \] with the Neumann boundary conditions on a bounded smooth domain \(\Omega\) in \({\mathbb R}^n.\) Assuming \(\varepsilon>0\) to be sufficiently small and that the additional conditions \(D=1\) and \(1/c<a\leq a_0(b,c)<b\) for the positive coefficients are satisfied, the authors prove the convergence \((u(t),v(t))\to (1,0)\) as \(t\to\infty\) for some global solutions \((u,v)\) whose initial values satisfy certain sophisticated growth conditions. One main tool used by the authors for proving the above mentioned long-time convergence result is a comparison principle in the viscosity sense which was established also by the authors in the same article under review.
