The author studies the monotonicity of the period function of the following quadratic system \[ \dot{x}=-y+xy , \quad \dot{y}=x+2y^2-cx^2. \] He shows that this system has two isochronous centers for \(c=1/2\). Its period function is monotone for every real \(c\) except for \(c \in (7/5,2)\), where it has one critical point. In his proofs, he rewrites the quadratic system in a normal form and expresses its period as a linear combination of Abelian integrals. Then, he uses the Picard-Fuchs method for algebraic curves.
