Pointwise approximation of Gamma operators for the classes of locally bounded functions and absolutely continuous functions has been studied here. A quantitative form of the central limit theorem in probability theory is used to derive an asymptotic formula for approximation of Gamma operators for sign function. An estimate of the rate of convergence of Gamma operators for absolutely continuous functions is asymptotically optimal [cf. \textit{R. Bojanic} and \textit{M. K. Khan}, Atti Semin. Mat. Fis. Univ. Modena 39, No. 2, 495--512 (1991; Zbl 0761.41018)].
