The authors consider the Cauchy problem in a Banach space \(E\) \[ x'(t)\in F(t,x_t)+G\left(\frac{t}{\varepsilon},x_t\right),\;x_0=\varphi,\;t\in[0,1], \] where \(\varphi\in C([-\tau,0];E)\), \(x_t=x(t+s)\) and where \(\varepsilon>0\) is a small parameter reflecting that the trajectories \(t\to x(t)\) move slowly compared to the time variable entering \(G\). The multimappings \(F\) and \(G\) are compact-valued and bounded on bounded sets. Under mild assumptions on the regularity, the averaging problem when the average does not necessarily exist is studied and solved. Under stronger assumptions (Lipschitz continuity), the accuracy of the averaging method is estimated. For periodic systems, the approximation orders are derived. An application to feedback-control systems is given.
