The authors are concerned with some weak spectral solutions to Dirichlet and mixed boundary value problems attached to linear fourth-order elliptic equations on quadrilaterals. From the mathematical point of view, they use the so-called Legendre irrational approximation previously introduced by themselves. Actually, they claim spectral accuracy for their scheme of approximation. But, from the analytical (see Theorem 3.1 p. 485) as well as from the numerical point of view this statement is questionable. The test solutions used in Sect. 4 are in fact analytic functions. Thus, it is hard to believe that Tables 5--8 reporting the accuracy of computed solutions could suggest spectral accuracy. However, a lifting technique is developed in an appendix in order that one could cope with inhomogeneous boundary value problems.
