      Existence and uniqueness of a nonempty sunny nonexpansive retraction is established for accretive operators. The strong convergence of Mann type resolvents of an \(m\)-accretive operator on a compact convex subset of a Banach space is also proved. The iteration sequence \(\{x_n\}\) is defined by: \(x_{n+1}= \alpha_n x_n+ (1-\alpha_n) Tr_n x_n\), \(n= 1,2,\dots\), where \(\{\alpha_n\}\subset[0,1]\) and \(\{r_n\}\subset (0,\infty)\) are such that \(\lim_{n\to\infty}\alpha_n= 0\) and \(\lim_{n\to\infty} r_n= \infty\). The results are applied to the sequences (i) \(x_n= {1\over 1+ r_n} x_n+ {r_n\over 1+ r_n} Tx_n\), where \(T\) is an accretive mapping, and (ii) \(u_n= {1\over 1+ r_n} x_n+ {r_n\over 1+ r_n} Tn_x\), \(x_{n+1}= \alpha_n x_n+ (1-\alpha_n) u_n\). The methods of proof are of acceptable standard.
