Let \(R\) be a 2-torsion free semiprime ring with center \(Z\), let \(D\) be a derivation of \(R\), and let \(\varphi\) be an automorphism of \(R\). Any additive \(f\colon R\to R\) is commuting when \(f(x)x=xf(x)\) for all \(x\in R\) and is centralizing when \(f(x)x-xf(x)\in Z\) for all \(x\in R\). The author proves that when either \(D+\varphi\) is centralizing or \(f(x)=D(x)x+x\varphi(x)\) is commuting, then \(D(R),(\varphi-I_R)(R)\subseteq Z\), and also proves that when \(D(x)x+x(\varphi(x)-x)=0\) for all \(x\in R\), then \(D=0\) and \(\varphi=I_R\).
