Let \(V\hookrightarrow H\hookrightarrow V^*\) be an evolution triple and the embedding \(V\hookrightarrow H\) be compact. The authors consider existence of solutions to the strongly nonlinear evolution equation with antiperiodic boundary condition \[ ax'(t)+ A(t, x(t))= f(t,x(t)),\quad 0< t< T,\quad x(0)= -x(T), \] where \(A: [0, T]\times V\to V^*\) is a nonlinear operator and \(f: [0, T]\times H \to V^*\) is a nonlinear nonmonotone perturbation. Existence is proven by means of the Leray-Schauder fixed-point theorem under the conditions above and the additional assumptions that \(A\) is measurable in \(t\), uniformly monotone and hemicontinuous in \(x\) and satisfies a nonlinear growth condition, and \(f\) is measurable in \(t\), continuous in \(x\) and satisfies a nonlinear growth condition. Existence of solutions to a second-order problem with antiperiodic conditions is established by converting the problem to a first-order one by using certain integral transformation. Applications are given to a quasi-linear parabolic partial differential equation and also to a wave equation with nonlinear friction with antiperiodic boundary conditions.
