    The authors generalize and prove two conjectures of \textit{S. Corteel} and \textit{J. Lovejoy} [Trans. Am. Math. Soc. 356, 1623--1635 (2004; Zbl 1040.11072)] related to overpartitions and divisor functions. For any pair positive integers \(m, n\), they prove the following: \[ \begin{multlined} \sum_ {i=1}^ n\begin{bmatrix} n\\ i\end{bmatrix} \frac{(-1)^ {i-1}(x+1)\cdots(x+q^ {i-1})}{(1-q^ i)^ m}q^ {mi}=\\ \sum_ {i=1}^ n\frac{(-1)^ {i-1}(x^ i-(-1)^ i)}{1-q^ i}q^ i\sum_ {i\leq i_ 2\leq\dots\leq i_ m\leq n}\frac{q^ {\sum_ {j=2}^ mi_ j}}{\prod_ {j=2}^ m(1-q^ {i_ j})}. \end{multlined} \] Here \(\left[{n\atop i}\right]\) is the usual \(q\)-binomial coefficient. They show that this identity can be obtained from the Newton interpolation in points \(\{-1, -q, -q^2, \dots\}\), using the complete symmetric function in the variables \(\{q=(1-q), q^2/(1-q^2), \dots\}\).
