Let \(G\) be a locally compact Abelian group with Haar measure \(dm\), \(T:G\to G\) a homomorphism, \(H\) a real-valued function on~\(G\), and \(\alpha_n\), \(n\in\mathbb N\), a~sequence of real numbers. A~multiscale Riesz product measure is the weak-\(*\) limit \[ d\mu(x) = \lim_{N\to\infty} \prod_{n=1}^N (1+\alpha_n H(T^{n-1}x)) \,dm(x) \tag{\(*\)} \] if such a limit exists. For \(G=\mathbb T\) and \(T(e^{i\theta})= e^{4i\theta}\), such measures were introduced by F.~Riesz; later, it~was shown by A.~Zygmund that \(d\mu\) is absolutely continuous if \(\sum| \alpha_n| ^2<\infty\), and singular otherwise. In~the present paper, the authors show that this kind of dichotomy persists for any homomorphism \(T(e^{i\theta})=e^{Ri\theta}\), \(R\in\mathbb N\), of~\(\mathbb T\) and any function \(H\) satisfying a suitable hypothesis (``type~\(R\)''); and they establish a criterion for the existence of the limit~(\(*\)), as~well as various properties of the support of~\(d\mu\) in~the case of a general locally compact Abelian group~\(G\). Several interesting concrete examples are also presented.
