    \textit{A. Dranishnikov} [Trans. Am. Math. Soc. 355, 155--167 (2003; Zbl 1020.53025)] has proved that every metric space of bounded geometry and asymptotic dimension \(\leq n\) admits a large-scale uniform embedding into the product of \(n+1\) locally compact metric trees. A map \(f: X \to Y\) between metric spaces is called a large-scale embedding if there are two functions functions \(\varphi_1, \varphi_2 : [0, \infty ) \to [0, \infty )\) tending to infinity such that \(\varphi_1(d_X(x,x^\prime)) \leq d_Y(f(x),f(x^\prime)) \leq \varphi_2(d_X(x,x^\prime))\) for all \(x,x^\prime \in X\). But, if \(\varphi_i, i=1,2\) are linear, then \(f\) is called a quasi-isometric embedding. In the special case, when \(X\) is the \(n\)-dimensional real hyperbolic space \(H^n\) (its asymptotic dimension equals \(n\)), the authors prove that for each \(n \geq 2\) there exist a homogeneous (simplicial) metric tree \(T\) and a quasi-isometric embedding \(f:H^n \to T^n = T\times \dots \times T\), i.e. into the \(n\)-fold product of \(T\). Furthermore, they show that there is no quasi-isometric embedding of \(H^2 \) into \(T \times \mathbb R^m\) for any metric tree \(T\) and any \(m \geq 0\).
